The experemental study on the healing process of autoclaved heterograft in the rat

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to observe the healing process of the autoclaved heterograft in the rats.
60 Sprague-Dawley rats were used for this study, and the author resected the full-thickness calvarial bone avoiding the median suture line. In autograft, the resected bone block was reimplanted in the original bed after autoclaving. In
heterograft,
bone
blocks were obtained from the human during operation of trauma or orthognathic surgery and autoclaved. The autoclaved human bone was trimmed and implanted in the calvarial defect The implanted bone was fixed by periosteal suture.
The light and fluorescent microscopic examinations were performed for the observation of the healing process.
The rats were sacrificed at 1, 3, 5, 8, 24 weeks after operation.
@ES The obtained results were as follows;
@EN 1. In control(autograft) group, the grafted bone was remodeled gradually through resorption and newly-formed bony apposition. In the fluorescent microscopic examination, the mild fluoresecent dye uptakes appeared appeared at 8 weeks.
2. In experimental(heterograft) group, the inflammatory and foreign body reaction were continued during the long time, but disappeared at 24 weeks. The remodeling of grafted bone was markedly decreased as compared with autograft. In fluorescent
microscopic examination, the fluorescent dye uptake within the grafted bone was not observed during all observation period.
